Proxy Tab (using
proxies)
A great feature of Site-Patrol is the ability
to use proxies from around the world to monitor
your website. A proxy is basically another Internet
connected machine which is in another location
around the world. You may search Google for free
proxies or even buy lists of some websites if
you wish. Most proxies come in the format of IP:PORT
(444.444.444.444:2706). Once you have your proxies,
insert them into the proxy section to be able
to use them. Be sure to update proxies as often
as possible (every few days) as they can die quickly.
Notifications
This is also an important part of Site-Patrol. Here you control how you are notified when your
site goes down. Below is each option and what
it does.
| Name |
Insert here the
name of the person who will be notified |
| Email |
Insert the email
address that you want the notification to be sent to.
|
| Mobile No. |
Here you can
enter the mobile no. of the person, in case
the person needs to be contacted |
| Send Recovery
MSG |
Check this option
if you want an email sent out (is checked
by default). |
| Send Try |
This is the amount
of unsuccessful tries Site-Patrol will go
through until it gives up sending the Email notification.
|
| Max Alerts |
This
is the maximum amount of times Site-Patrol will Email you that the site
has gone down. Example: If you are monitoring
a site once a minute and the site goes down, you could have 60 Emails
sent out in an hour if the site keeps failing. With this option, you
can limit the # of Emails that you will receive. To reset this
number to continue to receive Emails, you must quit and restart Site
Patrol.
|
| Show Alerts |
Click this to
show an alert on the desktop with an audible siren when your site
is down. (Is checked by default) |
More Settings It is highly recommended to use this option so you can further tweak your monitoring process. Below
are some of the extra settings and what they do
for you. Click on your website & then click on More
Settings.
| Add Keywords |
You can base
if a website is down on the keywords within
the site. You can specify which keywords should
or should not be found. You will be notified
depending on the result. |
| Check page
size |
If you wish to
check if a site is down based on the page
size use this option. (100 as default) |
| Time-out |
Specify the time
out value here. Time-out is how long it takes
to reach your site before the program gives
up. A site should never take longer then 30-60
sec. to respond. |
| Compare MD5
Checksum |
A very thorough
way of checking a website is by using a MD5
checksum. Use the calc button to automatically
calculate your sites MD5. |
Report
This will give you a quick report on your session
so far. You will see if a website is working
or has failed. If it has failed, you will see the reason why
it failed and when it failed. This is for a quick
overview.
MTR Report
This alternative report gives you a clearer idea
of your websites stability and uptime. You can
easily compare uptime Vs downtime and determine
if your web hosting is suitable.
View Log
Here you can find out every single thing that
Site-Patrol has been doing. Logs are broken up
into days. Simply click on a log date to open.
Here you will see things like websites tested,
websites failed, emails sent out, etc.
